I have tried Goretex and various other 'showerproof' makes of trouser (not to mention coats) and they all fall far short of the ideal - solooking to get some Ventile trousers

Sizing: better to get too long than too short I was told,, I'm happy with the length on that principle but the waist?

I measure 36" on the hip, which seems to be where I wear my trousers ( is it jut my age? 55. lol:D ) but always buy trousers with a 34" in waist and they usually fit perfectly, which leaves me in a bit of a conundrum. Sadly my waist actually meaures 36" too

any suggestions?

When I buy trousers, I tend to aim for my waist size and ignore the length as if they are too long I can always get my mum to take them up. Nothing you can do if they are too short tho, but in most cases it should work out fine doing it this way.

If you what the technical correct way to measure for trousers you should measure around the thinnest point of your waist, this may not be where you normally wear trousers as different garments sit lower or higher depending on the style.

The measurement many people believe to be their waist measurement is in fact the upper hip, measured just above the hip bone, this measurement is usually around 5 inches (12.5cm) larger than the true waist. If you are buying trousers to be worn low you should use this measurement. However this is down to personal comfort.

You also need to look at what type of clothing it is your buying, items like jackets tend to be a little larger than normal because they assume you are wearing at least something under them, the same would apply to trousers.

If you have all the measurements above, and contact our customer service team on 01535 654479 they would be able to give you the exact Ventile trousers to buy for you.

If you need any further help, please post on the forums or give us a call.

Get 36' waist trousers imo, as like me, at our age the waistline isn't going to get any smaller!!:p

Also I would generall go larger just in case you ever need to wear thermal leggings underneath.

If they are slightly too large you can always use a belt or a pair of braces!!

Best of luck

My ego and pride refuses to accept that there's no scope for my waistline to redeem itself, despite all evidence to the contrary!

Got them in 36" waist and 33" Length, would say that they are pretty much OK waist size wise,(I think I could just get away with 35") + length is perfect - good job legs don't shrink with age!;-)

Seriously though, sizing is pretty much spot on, unlike jeans. It's important to know because I buy jeans [Levi's] at 34" waist and they also fit perfectly, so jeans sizing clearly has a vanity allowance included.

I actually measure 36" waist ( before dinner;-)) and so these are a good fit, if slightly on the generous side. i.e. they are very comfortable for me at 36" but only just stay up without a belt and if I actually went out without a belt they would be too loose i.e. OKwhile standing still but loose for walking, so I would also certainly be ok with 35" if a tad tight. Oh ok, ok, 36" is spot on . Bah humbug!
