The Bowline will be supplying the Challenge8000 team with climbing and trekking by a number of renowned brands.
Just days before setting for the highest mountain in the world, the Challenge8000 Team secured sponsorship for the supply of mountaineering gear from The Bowline, local sole agent for renowned climbing/trekking brands DMM (climbing gear), Deuter (rucksacks and trekking equipment), Snugpak (sleeping bags and clothing) and Tendon (ropes).
The Challenge8000 Team will be the first ever Maltese team to climb to the top of the world. The 3 member Maltese team is already on its way to the summit attempt which should take place during this week.
The 61-day Everest expedition necessitates the best mountaineering equipment – with reliability, durability, lightweight being key to ensure success. The Bowline has provided the Challenge8000 team with Deuter haversacks of the ACT Lite range, very strong, very light and easy-to-use carabineers and climbing gear from DMM (whose sport the motto ‘climb now work later’), and outdoor accessories (including inflatable pillows) from the Snugpak range to give a touch of luxury to our climbers during the long days and nights at Everest Base Camp.
The team was also equipped with Tendon ropes where every gram saved and drag reduction are crucial for success. But perhaps the most representative tool of the mountaineer must be the ice axe, and for this reason the Challenge8000 team have been provided with technical ice axes from the DMM Rebel range which proved useful on the ice of the Kmumbu Icefall and the 1000m high Lhotse Ice Wall which are some of the obstacles which the Maltese team have encountered on Everest.
The Bowline was set up in 2008 by Daniel Zammit to meet the growing demand for trekking, climbing and the outdoors apparel and equipment in Malta. He combined his Scouts and engineering background to good use in promoting climbing products, further polished by being an avid climber himself. Bowline offers a personal and professional service for all Maltese seeking new pastures in trekking, climbing and mountaineering. According to Daniel, the Challenge8000 expedition provided the Bowline with the excellent opportunity to promote his suppliers’ quality products. “I am pleased to be supporting this historic Maltese expedition to Everest and that the Challenge8000 Team have chosen quality products from DMM, Deuter, Snagpak and Tendon to see them safely up to the top of the world”.
The Bowline is also sponsoring the 6-person Maltese contingent of trekkers that will be accompanying the Challenge8000 Team on the first 3 weeks of the Everest expedition, including an acclimatisation climb to the 6200m high Island Peak and the trek to Everest Base Camp.
